The most popular maternal breed in Uganda. Excellent mothering ability, high litter size (10–14 piglets), and good growth rate. Ideal for crossbreeding programs.
Renowned for maternal traits, longevity, and milk production. Often used as the dam line in crossbreeding with Large White or Duroc for superior hybrid vigour.
The premium terminal sire breed. Duroc pigs grow fast, have excellent feed efficiency, and produce high-quality marbled meat. Ideal for finishing pigs destined for premium pork markets.
The recommended choice for most commercial farmers. Crossbred pigs combine hybrid vigour, faster growth, better survival, and higher profitability than purebreds.
For breeding stock production: Large White and Landrace sows crossed with Duroc boar.
For pork (grow-out only): Crossbred weaners (Large White × Landrace × Duroc) for fastest growth and best meat.
For smallholders starting out: Crossbred females (Large White × Landrace) with a Duroc boar for terminal pigs.
Complete cycle: keep breeding sows, produce piglets, raise them to market weight (90–110kg). Highest profit potential but requires more management and biosecurity.
Purchase weaned piglets (8–10 weeks), raise them to slaughter weight (90–110kg) in 4–5 months, then sell. Lower capital, faster turnaround, ideal for beginners.
Keep only breeding sows and boars. Sell weaned piglets (4–8 weeks) to grow-out farmers. Requires excellent management of farrowing, lactation, and piglet health.
Combine pig farming with crop production. Pig manure fertilises crops (maize, vegetables, bananas). Crop residues and kitchen waste supplement pig feed. Circular economy model.
Pigs reach market in 6 months. You can harvest 2–3 batches per year. Compare to cattle (24+ months) or goats (12+ months). Your money works harder.
Uganda’s pork consumption is growing 10–15% annually. Shortage of quality pork in urban centres. Farmers get premium prices, especially during holidays.
Pigs convert feed to meat better than any other livestock (2.8–3.2 kg feed per kg gain). Lower feed costs = higher profit margins.
A fully integrated unit with 10 sows fits on 0.5 acre. Pigs require minimal land, ideal for peri-urban and smallholder farmers.
One pig produces 500–700kg of manure per cycle. Rich organic fertiliser worth UGX 50,000–100,000 per pig. Sell or use for crops.
We supply only high-performance breeds and crossbreds. Faster growth, higher survival, and better carcass quality than local pigs.
African Swine Fever (ASF) is a major risk. We train you on strict biosecurity, disinfection, and early detection to protect your herd.
We connect you to formal markets: abattoirs, hotels, butcheries, and processors. No more selling at low farmgate prices.
Regular herd health visits, vaccination programs, and emergency treatment. Our network vets keep your pigs healthy and productive.
We provide simple digital and paper records for feed intake, weight gain, health, and finances. Know your profits exactly.
Piggery requires less heavy labour than cattle. Suitable for women and youth. We offer special training and financing linkages.
Integrate with biogas (pig waste to cooking fuel) and crop farming. Reduce costs, increase sustainability, and earn carbon credits.
Returns vary based on management quality, market timing, disease prevention, and feed costs. Farmers using our improved breeds, structured nutrition, and biosecurity training consistently achieve strong profitability.
